and that wouldn't sit well with AM devotees. Three knobs, no more, no less: volume; tuning; and tone control. There is a classic, sleek look about this radio that really catches your eye. I primarilly use this radio with my XM tuner, though, so I never have any reception issues; that is, unless I stop paying the bill.The clock is easy to set, but the unit lacks battery back up, something that can be a bit annoying with power outtages. There is also a single speaker that does the job well, so mono fans rejoice.Now, when it comes to tuning, there are better radios out there. With the antenna provided, I get just about every FM station I want, but the internal AM tuner is a bit less satisfying; I have to shift and turn the radio to pick up certain stations. Oh, and the light is a bit on the bright side but it doubles as a faint nightlight if you have need for such a thing.Overall I really like this radio. I even bought a second one when the price dropped to $49.
There are not too many "plain" radios still around, but this unit filled the bill and more. I bought this unit for my mother to use as a replacement for an antique she was trying to use. Since she is imtimidated by new technology, she wanted something that was only a radio - like in the old days. It is very easy to use and the tuning and sound quality even impressed her. I highly recommend this purchase.
My brother and I bought this Sony radio for Mom's 75th birthday and she loves it. She lives in a hilly area and reception on regular radios has been sketchy at best. this Sony radio has amazing clarity and receives more stations than any other FM radio she has owned.
I wanted a radio that we could listen to at breakfast or when I am working in the kitchen. The tuner in the living room sounds terrible, & is too far away. This radio gets great reception without being complicated.
I bought this radio for my father who wanted to be able to tune in his favorite classical radio station. As for its ability to tune in stations, I don't know if it is any better than other radios but it works great as far as I can see. Its a very nice looking radio and it delivers really great sound. It sounds very full, clear, and rich despite being mono. The one we bought sits on the mantle and is on the same station, playing (literally) 24 hours a day, 265 days a year. This is a great Sony radio.
